Cadomian metabasites of the Eastern Pyrenees revisited

چکیده

This study presents a new geochemical, petrological, and geochronological U–Pb dataset from Ediacaran metabasites of the Canigó Cap de Creus massifs, Eastern Pyrenees. The rocks are composed calcic amphibole + plagioclase chlorite epidote ± quartz plus titanite apatite ilmenite biotite rutile as accessory phases show relict igneous textures. Peak pressure-temperature determinations share common conditions, ranging 452–482ºC 5.2–7.7kbar. These intermediate P-T conditions suggest Barrovian-type metamorphism, most likely related to collisional setting. correspond evolved basaltic (Mg#<0.55) with moderate TiO2 content (up 2.08wt.%) relatively low Cr (43–416ppm). moderately enriched in light rare earth elements (LREE) relative heavy (HREE) (average (La/Lu)n 2.7) N-MORB normalized multi-element patterns negative slopes, prominent Nb anomalies ((Nb/La)NMORB=0.33–0.78). variations akin island arc tholeiites generated back-arc basins other described Pyrenees putative age, they differ Ordovician tholeiitic massif, which derived contaminated E-MORB source. positive ƐNd(T) values (0.82–3.05) studied preclude notable contribution an older continental crust. U-Pb dating (LA-ICP-MS) one chlorite-rich schist sample contact massif yielded main peak at ca. 632Ma. We argue that Cadomian formed during extension margin Gondwana were later affected by (probably early Variscan) medium-P metamorphism before HT-LP classically

Monitoring of the Vallcebre landslide, Eastern Pyrenees, Spain

In 1996 and 1997 a monitoring network was set up at the translational slide of Vallcebre. Fourteen boreholes were equipped with piezometers, wire extensometers and inclinometers. Since then groundwater levels changes and wire displacements have been automatically recorded every 20 minutes. Superficial displacements have been periodically measured with differential GPS. The monitoring network ha...

The Pyrenees

The Pyrenees is a large mountain system stretching over the Iberian isthmus, and thus encompassing three distinct vegetation regions: medio-European, Mediterranean and Alpine. It includes contrasting landscapes in accordance with this large-scale pattern and also with smaller scales related to continentality, bedrock type, landform and ancient anthropic land use. The northern side and the weste...

Serological survey of Coxiella burnetii at the wildlife-livestock interface in the Eastern Pyrenees, Spain.

BACKGROUND Coxiella burnetii is a zoonotic bacterium that infects a wide range of animal species and causes the disease Q fever. Both wild and domestic ruminants may be relevant in the epidemiology of C. burnetii infection. In order to investigate the significance of the ruminant host community in the alpine and subalpine ecosystems of the Eastern Pyrenees, Northeastern Spain, in the epidemiolo...

Atmospheric Patterns Leading Major Avalanche Episodes in the Eastern Pyrenees and Estimating Occurrence

The occurrence of major avalanche episodes in the Eastern Pyrenees (NE Spain) is estimated by means of the Poisson and the negative binomial distributions, assuming that they are rare events. The differences observed in their spatial distribution along the seven regions in which Eastern Pyrenees have been divided, suggests us to look for spatial variations in the relationship between extreme av...
